"The Museo del Valle de Xico's construction is catalogued as a historical national monument and is considered to have two construction stages.
The first started in the XVI century when Peñol de Xico was delivered in posesión to Hernán Cortes
as a leisure spot by Spain's, King Charles V on July 1529. After he was named First Marquis, he built a country house that was maintained by the end of the XIX century when another spaniard, Iñigo Noriega bought the ranch in 1089 and built over Cortes' foundations.
After 1910's revolution, the ranch's grounds were segmented amongst the people from the zone and converted to common grounds." [source]
