Four little words around Mexican tragedies

Authorities knew about it.

That's what people are saying, neighbors had been reporting authorities about irregularities. For those wondering what am I doing here, I'm not Nancy Drewing this issue nor did I take a cab to get to see this. I don't need to, I live right in front of this complex.

Thing is, whether it is a huge sinkhole on the road that took the life of two people in the Morelos state or the fact this mall had a previous landslide (probably because was built over a small lake... weird ain't it?), the word "irregularity" is kind of a death sentence in Mexico. Corruption knows about these mysterious ways: permits, payments to continue "faulty" buildings under unusual circumstances, etc.
Nobody died today. Rumours have it, people doing the cleaning in the building were advised not to come to work today, some others say construction workers knew about the eminent collapse and provoked it. Helicopters keep flying by, they match the circulating hearsay and facts, just as rescue dogs follow protocols by walking in and neighbors talk in front of the cameras, or policemen try to do their work by keeping people out of the zone.
