Metrology and Walter Lewin

Any measurement that you make, without any knowledge of the uncertainty, is meaningless!”Walter Lewin
Some clients bring light to things you never thought of before, metrology for example. If I think about it, it's all about standardization of quantity. The basic principle of giving the same parts of something to a certain process. Five marbles to each kid, .02 micrograms of a component in a chemical solution, weighing 1 pound of meat each and every time you go to the supermarket and getting the exact amount of gas for the price of your money.

According to Wikipedia"currently, five independent units of measure are internationally recognized: temperature interval, linear distance, electrical current, frequency and mass." After the French Revolution, the idea of establishing one system for all to be applied constantly, finally emerged as such.

A little more thought put into it, metrology is all about an equilibrium between quantity, quality and price, but then again, it involves a certain scientific development to make it a practical approach.

Interesting.

Measuring oneself by arms length, by a metallic bar, towards another planet, by a different wavelength, shaping the world as we know it and establishing laws and rules we sometimes abide by.

Measuring love, people do it all the time with their invisible rulers. Things adding up or sliding down against our statistical yet unconscious units of expectations. Ethics or morals are measured by social compliances more than truth or the good of others. Even physical pain is measured in a scale from one to ten.

On the other hand, I'm glad some things in life elude this logical process of division. Incommensurable beauty is one I really love. Instinct is another. Dreams, feelings...
