#Méxicoleaks
I listen to Carmen Aristegui every morning. Two days ago, she spoke about MexicoLeaks launch at the radio station where she works in, MVS. Today, two reporters from Aristegui's team were fired from the radio station.
MVS is claiming they did not want to be involved with this platform nor they had any idea Aristegui (or any of his members) was going to use the company's name to showcase an information they never agreed upon to air.
The only voice (amongst few others) of somewhat independent Mexican journalism has been silenced by the same company, again. While Calderón was president, a tarp was displayed by Fernández Noroña in the chamber of deputies. A red eyed Calderón with a blurry expression on his face had the following phrase on top: "Would you let a drunk man drive your car? No, right? Then why do you let this same man run your country?" Aristegui thanks the reporter for the information but makes the following remark: "But let's go back to the tarp business... Let's leave the question open. It's not the first time Calderón has been linked to a drinking problem, if you are a social media user, there is a lot of information around this issue... We don't have any fact or evidence this is actually the case though it's a really delicate matter... But in every democracy, the state of the president's health in other countries is measured by the government itself... So, if this matter was to be true, then it would need to be addressed by his cabinet or even the President himself... Has Felipe Calderón an alcoholism problem?"
The next day, MVS wrote an apology letter towards Calderon on Aristegui's behalf and asked her to air it on her program. She refused and was fired. She later gave a press conference. Mexicans made a riot. MVS reconsidered and hired her again.
"What was it that upset the State [government]?" |
