Archeological Sites for Sale

stu·pid
ˈst(y)o͞opəd/
adjective
1. lacking intelligence or common sense.

I know I have to pay more attention to things happening to our neighbours up north (things are no longer a laughing matter) but I'm really concerned with local issues that are happening for example, in Veracruz (Wake Up Veracruz!).

So not only are Cholula's ruins being run over by a ˈst(y)o͞opəd president wannabe, Valle de Bravo, the beautiful place I call my other home (I have too many now) has been secretly in trouble for a number of years, since 1975 to be more precise.

The sad part is that this archeological site was sold to Alejandro Martí (Marti stores) and Alejandro Aboumrad (Grupo Carso: Slim) and after what seemed to be a green light from our venerable INAH (the institution supposed to protect our heritage), they started to dismantle the archeological site back in 1984. Then after some complaints from the community, the INAH put their gloves on again and made a quick sweep of the findings: 22 activity areas, 28 burials and 112 vessels. Exhausted, they went for a deserved vacation (maybe with an extra payment on their accounts) while the Alejandros kept dismantling the zone.

To build a hospital one might ask? Is water supply an issue there? Was it for the betterment of the people around it? No. This is a Bodega Aurrera:

This quadrangular post-hispanic structure of impressive stylistic development and complex aesthetics manifests the importance of the habitat to modern man. Like most great Mesoamerican cities and their need of power through trade, the founding of this building will encourage another phase of greed and glory allied with Peñanietzin, the Serpent ruler.

Ichtecqueh means thieves in nahuátl and these two guys are cultural thieves in my book. In Alejandro Marti's case this involvement is even more disappointing. He allegedly lost his son to organized crime. What happens to people that acquire these positions of power that blinds them into their gluttony? How rich can you become in a lifetime? The more our tlatoanis (rulers) try to regulate us, the more we see these cases popping up that clearly show they are the ones that need the regulation.

Maybe what the INAH should do, is send these "useless" stones to the border and start building the wall now every candidate for presidency in the US wants. A little too ironic? (sigh) Yes I really do think.
