The Fancy Murat's

Years ago, I saw López Portillo at a golf course. He was tying his shoes in the parking lot. He seemed so frail without his bodyguards, all wrinkly, thin and yellow. My dad told me he was an ass, that he had spent Mexico's money back in 1982 to the point of bankruptcy.

After a number of years, I learned about him at school. He was the one who on TV, in front of millions of Mexicans uttered: "... that is the structure that I have compromised to defend [the peso] as a dog.

Fast forward to 2015 and the fact the government has kept acquiring debts or stealing money through our President and First Lady, our IRS guy, and all the way to the Murat family is of no surprise. The Murat's skiing in Vail, pictures of gala events, cartels of repudiation in the state of Oaxaca towards a failed state... And while we kept paying our taxes, these people seemed to think this money had the right to go directly to their back pocket. Money invested, spent and enjoyed throughout generations, Pratt education, a flat in NY, lunches in expensive restaurants, fancy friends. It seems so vain, shallow and insulting, mainly insulting in so many ways.

Does it surprise us? Sadly, nope. But the same issue with escalated violence, can we really grasp an idea around the amounts of zeros in the Hinojosa accounts? Why has stealing become so greedy and vile? When is enough, just so?
