Giraffe: Shot December 2013, 10.44pm
"He always - always - slept in that same spot and seemed to go down only when it was late and really quiet. It was very dark and I needed to expose my camera for several minutes to allow the scene to come to light. As soon as the animal moved, I had to abandon the shot as the image became blurry. For months I struggled, capturing Zabulu still and on the ground, then as he - despite all my efforts to be invisible - sensed me, he tilted and moved his head around. However, that particular night, all the stars lined up. It was a warm, clear night. He closed his eyes and let me expose, expose, expose and then fill my soul with laughter!"
